La décoction de Chaihu Guizhi Ganjiang est mentionnée pour la première fois dans le "Shanghan Lun". La prescription est composée de sept ingrédients : Chaihu, Huangqin, Guizhi, Ganjiang, Racine de Gualou, Ostre, et Gancao. Elle a pour effet de disperser le Shaoyang, de réchauffer la rate et de stimuler la production de fluides. Cliniquement, elle est souvent utilisée pour traiter la cholécystite chronique (CC), le syndrome du côlon irritable, la stéatose hépatique non alcoolique, et diverses maladies gastro-intestinales. La dyspepsie liée à la CC est un ensemble de symptômes cliniques causés par la CC, incluant douleurs abdominales, perte d'appétit, satiété postprandiale, aversion aux aliments gras, selles molles, goût amer en bouche, etc., classée comme une forme de dyspepsie d'origine biliaire (BD). La médecine moderne utilise principalement des traitements médicaux internes et chirurgicaux. Le traitement interne vise principalement à soulager l'inflammation, favoriser l'expulsion des calculs biliaires, réduire les spasmes et la douleur, et à améliorer la digestion des symptômes de la dyspepsie. Les effets à court terme sont acceptables, mais il existe des problèmes tels que l'action limitée, un taux élevé de récidive et une faible dépendance. La chirurgie peut guérir la cholécystite, mais augmente le risque d'événements indésirables tels que douleurs abdominales, diarrhée et dyspepsie. Des preuves cliniques modernes montrent que la décoction de Chaihu Guizhi Ganjiang améliore significativement les douleurs abdominales et la dyspepsie chez les patients atteints de CC.
