Ароматерапия – это метод, при котором ароматические компоненты растений используются в подходящих формах для воздействия на весь организм или локально с целью профилактики и лечения заболеваний. Эфирные масла, применяемые в ароматерапии, представляют собой гидрофобные жидкости, содержащие летучие ароматические молекулы. Типичные ароматические молекулы включают лимонен, линалоол, ацетат линалоола, гераниол и цитронеллол. Эти химические вещества были широко исследованы и показали эффективность в снижении тревожности, уменьшении депрессии, улучшении сна и обезболивании. Терпеновые соединения – это небольшие гидрофильные органические молекулы, которые могут проникать через слизистую носа при ингаляции или проникать в кровь через кожу при местном применении. Некоторые из этих веществ способны преодолевать гематоэнцефалический барьер, воздействуя на центральную нервную систему. В настоящее время научное сообщество в целом признает, что эфирные масла и ароматические продукты, полученные из растений, обладают определенными оздоровительными эффектами.
