1498 papers of pharmacological studies of traditional medical formulae were published on 160 various journals during 1991～1994.Those papers dealing with 880 recipes were from 305 institutions. Among the 880 prescriptions

166 with 484 papers were from the classical and ancient formalae

others(714 recipes)with 1014 papers were from empirical ones designed by present traditional medical doctors. One fourth of all prescriptions studied were tonifying recipes
