Objective: To observe the effects of lithagogue decoction of Herba Desmodii on relieving pain and lithagogue after extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) surgery. Method: Eighty-six patients with ESWL surgery were randomly divided into two groups

the treatment group (43 cases) and the control group (43 cases). The treatment group was orally given lithagogue decoction of Herba Desmodii

while the control group was injected progesterone. The pain-relieving time and the lithagogue time were recorded respectively in the two groups. Result: The pain-relieving time in the treatment group(9±4.1)h was shorter significantly than that in the control group(11±6.4)h(P<0.05). The lithagogue time in the treatment group(7±3.1)d was shorter significantly than that in the control group(10±3.8)d (P<0.01). Conclusion: The lithagogue decoction of Herba Desmodii has both pain-relieving and lithagogue effects after ESWL surgery.
