Objective: To optimize optimum extraction process and purification process of total saponins from Melilotus officinalis . Method: Orthogonal test was designed for investigating optimum extraction and purification technology for M. officinalis with the content of total saponins as index
respectively. Result: Optimum extraction process of total saponins were:extracted 3 times with 14 times the amount of 70% ethanol for 1 h each time
extraction solvent to reflux for 1.0 hour and 3 times.Optimum purification process was:concentrated extract passed through D101 resin with eluting by 6.0 BV 70% ethanol
elution flow rate was 3.0 mL·min-1
adsorption flow rate was 1.0 mL·min-1. Conclusion: This optimized process was simple
