Abstract
Objective: To investigate the hepatoprotective effects of Cichorium glandulosum extracts (CG-Ⅰand CG-Ⅱ) against alcohol-induced acute liver injury in mice. Method: The acute liver injury animal model was established in mice by alcohol gavage (35% at 16 mL ·kg-1). The liver and spleen indexes
alanine aminotransferase (ALT)
activities of serumaspartate amiontransferase (AST)
cholesterol (CHO)
triglycerides(TG)
activities of superoxidedismutase (SOD) and lutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)
contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) in liver homogenate
as well as the histopathological changes were all studied. Result: CG-I and CG-Ⅱsignificantly reduced the spleenindex and activities of serum ALT and TG
increased the activities of liver SOD and GSH-Px
lowered the contents of MDA and NO (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Specifically
CG-I (1.0
2.0 g ·kg-1) and CG-Ⅱ(1.2
2.4 g ·kg-1) decreased the liver index (P<0.05); CG-I(1.0 g ·kg-1) and CG-Ⅱ(1.2 g ·kg-1) decreased the activity of serum AST (P<0.05); CG-Ⅰ(1.0 g ·kg-1) and CG-Ⅱ(2.4 g ·kg-1) decreased the activity of serum CHO (P<0.05 or P<0.01); CG-Ⅰand CG-Ⅱ improved liver injuries. Conclusion: CG-I and CG-Ⅱ showed protective effects against acute liver injury induced by alcohol in mice.
