Objective: To study the optimum condition for the extraction of total tanshinones from above-ground part of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae and to screen the optimum macroporous resin. Method: The extraction process was evaluated by orthogonal design with the content of total tanshinone as index
absorption and desorption rates of total tanshinone on five resins as the screening indexes. Result: The optimal condition was as follows: added 12 times 90% alcohol for 2 times and 1.5 hours for each time. The optimum macroporous resin was D101-1. Conclusion: The process can extract and concentrate the total tanshinone from above-ground part of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae.
