Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of Rhizoma Chuanxiong extract on rodent’s experimental dysmenorrhea and to reveal the extract’s analgesic mechanism. Method: Rodent’s experimental dysmenorrhea was induced with oxytocin. A writhing test was employed to evaluate the analgesic effects of Rhizoma Chuanxiong extract
which was designed into different doses
in animal subjects. The contents of PGF2α
PGE2
TXB2
6-keto-PGF1α in the blood were observed by Elisa assay. Result: The extract has a significant analgesic effect on experimental dysmenorrhea with dose-dependent manner. Latent period was delayed significantly
the number of writhing response was evidently decreased as well. Besides
PGE2 were significantly increased
and PGF2α
PGF2α/PGE2
TXB2
TXB2/6-keto-PGF1α decreased in the treated groups ( P <0.01). Conclusion: Rhizoma Chuanxiong extract had a significant analgesic effect on experimental dysmenorrhea. Its analgesic mechanism is mediated by regulating the plasma levels of PGF2α
