Hypoglycemic Active Fraction of the Stems of (Retz.)Schult
Objective:To study the hypoglycemic active fraction of the stems of Gymnema sylvestre(Retz.)Schult.Methods:The chemical constituens of the stems of Gymnema sylvestre(Retz.)Schult were extracted and isolated by systematic solvents.The extracts were identified by UV and TLC.Fasted blood sugar in mice was measured by glucoseoxidase.Results:UV spectral digram and TLC identification found that n-butanol and 95% ethanolic extracts of stems had similar absorption peaks and spots
It suggested the similar chemical constituents in them.Phamacological studies found that n-butanol and 95% ethanolic extracts of stems could significantly decrease fasted blood sugar in alloxan-induced diabetic mice.Conclusion:n-Butanol and 95% ethanolic extracts of stems have obvious hypoglycemic effect in alloxan-induced diabetic mice.
