Protective and Alleviative Effects of Jili Liangdi Tang on Streptozotocin-induced Diabetes Mellitus and Peripheral Neuropathy in Rats
Objective: To investigate the benefitial and protective effects of Jili Liangdi Tang (JLLDT) on Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mellitus and periphery neuropathic pain. Method: Sixty rats were employed and divided into control
model
positive control (metformin 200 mg·kg-1) and JLLDT low
medium and high dose (16.2
32.4
64.8 g·kg-1) groups evenly. Except of the control group
all the rats were established type II diabetes mellitus induced by intraperitoneal injection of STZ. The rats were intragastric administration of corresponding agent for 4 weeks
while the intake of food and water were recorded. The blood glucose and insulin levels were also measured by blood glucose meter or ELISA kit. Sixty rats were employed and divided into control
model
positive control (gabapentin 120 mg·kg-1) and JLLDT low
medium and high dose (16.2
32.4
64.8 g·kg-1) groups evenly. Except of control group
all the rats were established diabetes mellitus neuropathy induced by intravenous injection of STZ for 7 days. The rats were intragastric administration of corresponding drugs
while the thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia were measured respectively. Result: JLLDT could decrease the food and water intake and elevate the body weight of diabetic rats significantly in a dose-dependent manner. The blood glucose concentration was deceased to 10.3 mmol·L-1and insulin level was elevated to 0.61 μg·L-1significantly after administration of JLLDT high dose. The three doses of JLLDT could ameliorate the thermal hyperagesia and allodynia of model rats respectively. The analygesia rate in JLLDT high dose reached at 50.3% and 63.2%
respectively (P<0.05). Conclusion: JLLDT exhibits pronounced ability of decrease diabetic blood glucose by elevating insulin secretion
and has protective effect in diabetic periphery neuropathic pain.
