Effect of Supplementing Qi and Nourishing Yin on Gastrointestinal Reactions and Quality of Life in Patients with Advanced Lung Cancer after Chemotherapy
Objective:To observe the effect of supplementing qi and nourishing yin on gastrointestinal reactions and quality of life in patients with advanced lung cancer after chemotherapy.Method: Eighty-five patients with advanced lung cancer were randomly divided into treatment group(n=45)and control group(n=40).The treatment group was given remedy of supplementing qi and nourishing yin combined with chemotherapy.The control group was given chemotherapy.A treatment cycle was four weeks.The traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) clinical symptoms

quality of life in each group before and after treatment were observed in two cycles.Result: In the two groups
the symptom scores were improved after the treatment cycle(P<0.05).The treatment group could relieve the lung cancer clinical syndromes including cough
bloody sputum
chest pain
shortness of breath and fatigue better than control group(P<0.05).The treatment group could significantly relieve syndromes of nausea and vomiting
loss of appetite
constipation
improving the quality of life and body weight comparing to control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group
the physical condition and functional status of the patients in the treatment were better(P<0.05).As side effects and toxicity concerned
the results were similar in two groups.Conclusion: As for the advanced lung cancer patients of chemotherapy with cisplatin
the use of supplementing qi and nourishing yin decoction can not only improve the symptoms of lung cancer
but also effectively reduce gastrointestinal reactions induced by chemotherapy and improve patient’s quality of life.
