Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant activity of extracts from Pogostemon cablin and Agastache rugosa. Method: Their antioxidant activity was evaluated and compared using 1
2'-amino-di(2-ethyl-benzothiazoline sulphonic acid-6) ammonium salt (ABTS) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. Result: There was some correlation for antioxidant capacity between the total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents (r=0.6099). The ethyl acetate of P. cablin showed the strongest capacity of DPPH scavenging[IC50(79.60±3.14) mg· L-1]
the ethyl acetate of A. rugosa showed the strongest capacity of ABTS scavenging[IC50(4.41±0.23) mg· L-1]
and the petroleum ether of P. cablin had the strongest capacity of FRAP[TEAC(1 822.99±1 141.13) μmol· g-1]. Conclusion: They all had certain antioxidant effects and small differences were found between P. cablin and A. rugosa.
