Using Langendorff’s device for coronary artery ligation and reperfusion
effects of Zhigancao decoctoin on myocardial damage induced by ligating and reperfusing descending anterior branch of coronary artery were studied in isolated rat hearts.Zhigancao decoction at a dose of 8g/L was found to produce a marked reduction in the incidence of VT during ligation(ishenua)
VF after reperfusion
and arrhythmia in rats.It also remarkably inhibited CPK or LDH release from mvocardial cells. In addition
Zhigancao decoction at doses of 2

and 8g/L appeared to increase the activity of SOD and decrease the level of MDA in myocardial tissue. All these effects were similar to those of verapamil(0.5μmol/L).
