The effects of Sanshengyin Decoction as a whole were found to be obviously superior to its individual ingredient or separating prescription made of fewer ingredients. Sanshengyin Decoction as a whole had a less toxicity than its individual ingredient or the separating prescription. Ginger appeared to play an important part in enhancing effects and weakening toxicity of the prescription.
