Objective:To investigate the effect of the Shuangyi Jiangtang prescription on the blood glucose and blood lipids in type 2 diabetic rats.Method: rats model of type 2 diabetes mellitus was established by taking high fat diet for 4weeks and combined with STZ ip for 40 mg · kg-1

and the model rats were randomly divided into diabetes model group（T2DM）

rosiglitazone maleate positivecontrol groups（RM

ig 0.29 mg · kg-1 ·d-1）

Shuangyi Jiangtang prescription high dose group（SG

ig 4 000 mg · kg-1 · d-1）

Shuangyi Jiangtang prescription low dose group（SD ig 1 000 mg · kg-1 · d-1）

and the normal control group（NC）.We had observed the general condition of rats during and after the whole treatment of 4 weeks

and tested glucose tolerance

glycated hemoglobin（HbA1c）

blood lipids

and fasting serum insulin（INS）.Result: In the group of SG

the rats’ symptoms of polydipsia

polyuria and mental status were improved in some degree

fasting blood glucose（FBG）

0.5 h blood glucose（BG） and 2 h BG were lower than the T2DM group

the fasting serum insulin level was higher than the T2DM group（P<0.05）.Compared with the model group

fasting blood glucose

glycosylated hemoglobin

lipids were improved in some degree

but there was no significant statistics difference.In the groups of SD and RM

the general condition of rats were bettered

and compared with the model group

the glucose tolerance

HbA1c and the blood lipid of the rats decreased significantly（P<0.05）

and the serum insulin increased significantly（P<0.05）

but between the two groups of SD and RM

there was no difference in those indexes.Conclusion: The Shuangyi Jiangtang prescrription can improve sugar

lipid metabolism and islet cells function of type 2 diabetic rats

the low-dose group has the best effect

and its efficacy is similar to the rosiglitazone maleate.
