and 5 studies met the inclusion criteria were identified for meta-analysis. There were significant differences between IBS-D group and the control group (P<0.05)

IBS-C group and the control group (P<0.05); there was no difference between IBS-D group and IBS-C group. Conclusion: 5-HT plays a role in the pathogenesis of IBS-D and IBS-C

the role of 5-HT in IBS-D and IBS-C may be the same.
