Objective:To investigate plant resource of Desmodium styracifolium and evaluate the quality of crude drugs collected from different locations

so as to provide scientific basis for the sustainable utilization

rational exploitation and standardized cultivation of D. styracifolium. Method: The combination of literature consult and field research was conducted. Determination of schaftoside by HPLC was applied for the evaluation of crude drugs. Result: The wild resource of D. styracifolium was gradually reduced

which was close to extinction in some regions. The cultivating technique of D. styracifolium was imperfect and crude drugs were uneven in quality

which discouraged plant exploitation. Conclusion: The ecological environmental protection of D. styracifolium should be strengthened in order to promote its repopulation. Furthermore

GAP base of D. styracifolium should be set up

so as to improve cultivating and processing technology and meet the need of market.
