Objective: To study the effects of salvianolic acid B(Sal-B) on blood glucose
lipid
renal function
insulin levels
as well as insulin and glucose tolerance in rat models with type 2 diabetes. Method: The rat type 2 diabetes model was established by feeding with high glucose and fat diets and intraperitoneally injecting with 30 mg·kg-1 STZ. The rats were divided into four groups: normal
model
diamicron (26.7 mg·kg-1)and Sal-B(187 mg·kg-1) group
corresponding drugs were orally administrated for four weeks. At the end of administration
blood samples were collected
and blood glucose
glycosylated hemoglobin(HBA)
triglyceride
total cholesterol
creatinine
blood urea nitrogen
and insulin levels were detected. Then insulin sensitivity index was calculated. Insulin sensitivity of rats was evaluated by insulin and glucose tolerance tests. Result: Sal-B and diamicron not only significantly decreased fasting blood glucose and lipid
insulin and HbA1 c levels(P<0.01)
but also improved renal function
insulin sensitivity
insulin and glucose tolerance
which were remarkably different from the model group(P<0.05
P<0.01). Conclusion: Sal-B can lower blood glucose and lipid levels
protect kidney
ameliorate glucose and lipid disorders
and insulin resistance in rat models with type 2 diabetes.
