Objective: To compare chemical constituents of the essential oil of Litsea glutinosa (Lour.) C.B.Rob. were extracted by steam distillation (SD) and supercritical-CO2 fluid extraction (SFE-CO2). Method: The chemical components of the essential oil were separated and identified by GC-MS
Their relative contents were determined by normalization of peak area. Result: In essential oil extracted by SD 33 peak were separated and 19 of them were identified representing 71.94% of the total contents. The volatile constituents were mainly the (Z)-3-Hexen-1-ol (43.90%)
(E)-2-Hexenal (7.42%)
2
4-bis(1
1-dimethylethyl)-Phenol (4.80%). In essential oil extracted by SFE-CO2 55 peak were separated and 33 of them were identified representing 81.51% of the total contents. The volatile constituents were mainly the squalene (11.85%)
eucalyptol (9.95%)
(+)-.alpha.-Terpineol (5.34%). Conclusion: The constituents of essential oils extracted by SFE-CO2 were different from that of extraction by SD. The result provided evidence for understanding the constituents of essential oils and explitation of Litsea glutinosa (Lour.) C.B.Rob.
