Objective: To investigate the anti-oxidant effect in vitro and in vivo of Houttuyniae Herba polysaccharide on mouse liver
kidney
and heart and brain tissues. Method: Kunming mice were divided into model group
control group and Houttuyniae Herba polysaccharide group. Three Houttuyniae Herba Polysaccharide subgroups were given Houttuyniae Herba polysaccharide for 7 days with doses of 30

120 mg ·kg-1 respectively.The control group was ip injected blend oil
and the other groups was ip given 0.15% CCl4 mixed with blend oil at 2 h after last administration.After 24 hours blood serum of mice was separated and ALT and AST were determined.The liver index was calculated and MDA in liver homogenate were determined. Free radicals induced by the fenton reaction were determined by absorption at wavelength of 532 nm (A532 nm). Result: Houttuyniae Herba Polysaccharide could alleviate the inflammation in response to experimental liver injury. Different concentrations of Houttuyniae Herba Polysaccharides can reduce ALT and AST in serum (P<0.05) and lower the content of the MDA in tissue (P<0.01). Anti-oxidation experiments of Houttuyniae Herba polysaccharide in vitro shopwed that it inhibited the production of lipid peroxidates and significantly decrease A532nm (P<0.01). ALT activity
has antioxidant effect in liver
kidney
heart and brain. The antioxidant effect is especially strong for kidney and liver.
