Objective: To investigate the hypoglycemic effect and its action mechanism of persimmon leaf polysaccharide in diabetic mice induced by streptozotocin (STZ). Method: The diabetic mice were induced by STZ.Mice were randomly divided into 5 groups: control group
model group
glibenclamide group (25 mg ·kg-1 ·d-1)
low and high dose groups of persimmon leaf polysaccharide (150 mg ·kg-1 ·d-1
600 mg ·kg-1 ·d-1).The drugs were administrated to mice in every morning for 15 days.In the corresponding time
the contents of fasting blood glucose (FBG)
fasting insulin(FINS)
malondialdehyde (MDA)
superoide dismutase (SOD) activity
insulin sensitivity index (ISI) and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were determined. Result: The persimmon leaf polysaccharide could markedly decrease blood glucose in STZ-induced diabetic mice.Meanwhile it could reduce the content of MDA and increase the activity of SOD in liver
and increase insulin sensitivity index (ISI) and the amount of islet cells. Conclusion: The persimmon leaf polysaccharide decreases blood glucose
and it has a very potential value in the treatment of diabetes.
