Objective: To studythe absorptionofsalvianolic acid Banddanshensu. Method: In situ single pass perfusion model was used and the concentration ofsalvianolic acid B and danshensu in perfusate were determined by HPLC in combinationwith ultraviolet detector. Result: The apparent penetration coefficient(Papp) and absorption percentage(Fa)of danshensu andsalvianolic acid B were all low at differentconcentrationin four different regions of intestine of rat (duodenum
jejunum
ileum
colon). The absorption rate of dashensu was faster than salvianolic acid B in this study. The values of the Fa a and the Papp were not significantly affected by concentration of perfusion solution and intestinal segments. Conclusion: The intestine absorption characteristics ofsalvianolic acid B and danhensu was poor at all segments of intestine in rats where there is no special ab sorption site and showed the passive diffusion process.
