Objective:To observe the protective effect of Weishu Powder (WP) on experimental acute gastritis in rat. Methods: fifty-six SD rats were randomized into normal group

model group

low-dose WP group

high-dose WP group

low-does Chen-xiang-lu-bai-lu tablet (Chen) group

high-dose Chen group and Cimetidine group. The rats in the above groups were fed with the corresponding drugs by gastric infusion for 3 days. The injury of stomach mucous membrane induced by alcohol and acute gastritis induced by sodium salicylate in rats were observed. Effect of WP on the count of somatic wrenching reaction induced by dilute acetic acid in mice were determined. Results: As compared with the model group

two dose groups of WP could depress the injury of stomach mucous membrane induced by alcohol and reduce the ulceration index of acute gastritis induce by sodium salicylate (P<0.05 or P<0.01)

also decreased the count of somatic wrenching reaction in mice. The different effects between WP and Chen in the same dose was significant (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusion: WP possess markedly protective effect on the injury of stomach mucous membrane in rat

it also reduced the wrenching count in mice.The effect of WP was superior to Chen in the same dose.
