Objective:To investigate the anti-inflammatory mechanism of total glucosides of Cape Jasmine(TGCJ) on rats with adjuvant arthritis. Methods: Rats were randomly divided into the normal group
the model group
the GTW group
and the TGCJ groups of small
medium
large dosages(20
40
80 mg·kg-1).Except for the normal group
animals were modeled to form adjuvant-induced arthritis with Freund's complete adjuvant. The arthritis index(AI) and the swelling degree of paws were recorded
and the activity of IL-1β
TNF-α and the levels of NO
NOS and PGE2 in joint synovium of secondary arthritis were determined. Results: Compared with the normal group
the levels of NO
NOS
PGE2 and the activity of IL-1β and TNF-α in joint synovium of secondary arthritis were increased significantly in the model group.Compared with the model group
TGCJ showed a dramatic inhibitory effect on secondary reaction of adjuvant arthritis
and the levels of NO
NOS
PGE2 and the activity of IL-1β and TNF-α in joint synovium of secondary arthritis were significantly decreased. Conclusions: TGCJ has a remarkable treatment effect on arthritis.Inhibiting the activity of cytokines and decreasing the level of inflammation media in inflammatory region may be involved in the mechanisms of the therapeutic effects of TGCJ.
