Background & Objective: Recent studies indicated that nitric oxide synthase(NOS) pathway was involved in angiogenesis around tumor tissues and that tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-2(IL-2) were concerned with the oncogenesis and development of hysteromyoma. In the present study
the effect of Jiliuqing capsules on serum activity of NOS and concentrations of TNF-α and IL-2 in rats with hysteromyoma was investigated to elucidate the possible mechanisms implicated in the anti-tumor effect of Jiliuqing capsules. Methods: Hysteromyoma in rats was established by intramuscular injection of estrogen and progesterone.Following treatment with Jiliuqing capsules for 11 weeks
serum activity of NOS and concentrations of TNF-α and IL-2 were determined. Results: Compared with those in control group
serum activity of NOS and TNF-α concentration in model group were increased significantly
while serum content of IL-2 was decreased markedly. In contrast
treatment with Jiliuqing capsules resulted in an evident decrease in NOS activity and serum level of TNF-α
together with a markedly increased serum concentration of IL-2.Conclusion: Jiliuqing capsules can significantly decrease serum activity of NOS and TNF-α content and increase serum level of IL-2
suggesting that the anti-tumor effect of Jiliuqing capsules on hysteromyoma might be related
at least partly
to the adjustment of endocrine and enhancement of immune function.
