Objective: To study the chemical constituents of Forsythia suspensa and antioxidant activity of forsythoside A. Method: The compounds were isolated and purified by column chromatography on silica gel Sephadex LH-20 and preparative HPLC
and their structures were identified by physicochemical properties and spectral analysis. DMPD.+ and DPPH experiments were conducted to examine the antioxidant activity of forsythoside A. Result: Six compounds were isolated from the fruits of F. suspensa. The structures of the compounds were determined as forsythoside A(1)
calceolarioside B(2)
rutin (3) and forsythin (4)
isoolivil (5)
daucosterol (6)
respectively. Conclusion: Forsythoside A showed excellent antioxidant activity.
