quercetin and gallic acid are the main chemical compositions of mango leaves with a content of more than 2% each. This article is to investigate the interaction effects of mangiferin and quercetin/gallic acid when they were used together for antitussive purpose.Method:Ammonia-induced cough model was employed to study antitussive effect.Factorial analysis of variance was employed to study interaction effects.Result:Compared with the ’mangiferin group’
the antitussive effect of ’mangiferin+quercetin group’ was stronger(P<0.01)
while the effect of ’mangiferin+ gallic acid group’ was equal(P>0.05).Conclusion:There exists interaction between mangiferin and quercetin;quercetin can significantly improve mangiferin’s antitussive effect. No interaction effect between mangiferin and gallic acid;gallic acid indicates no antitussive effect when it is taken orally together with mangiferin.
