Objective:To study protective effects of aqueous extract of Cinnamon cassia on the whole cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats.Method: Fifty SD male rats were randomly divided into five groups: normal group
model group
C.cassia group(10
20
40 g·kg-1 as low
moderate and high dose respectively). The model of the whole cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury was established by four-vessel occlusion(4-VO).Intragastric administration of C.cassia continued 7 days before modeling and stoped the administration 3 h after the modeling. The activities of MAO and CAT in the brain
heart
liver
kidney tissues were determined by the Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer.Result: Compared with the model groups
the activity of MAO was decreased remarkably(P<0.05 or P<0.01) in all tissues by all doses of C.cassia and the result of the low dose was the best. The activity of CAT in all tissues was enhanced remarkably(P<0.05 or P<0.01) by the high dose
while the activity of CAT in brain and heart was enhanced remarkably(P<0.05 or P<0.01) by the low group and moderate group
without effects in liver and kidney. Conclusion: Aqueous extract of C.cassia had protective effects on the whole cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats
and the mechanism may relate to lipid peroxidation and inhibitory action of MAO.
