Objective:To compare and identify leaf venation characteristics of Alocasia cucullatat and A.macrorrhiza.Method: An identification method for LMVP(leaf morphological-venation pattern for identification Chinese herbs) was established and applied.Result: The difference between A.cucullatat and A.macrorrhiza is as follows: A.cucullatat: leaf blade is oval-cordate
leaf base cordate or round
leaf apice cuspidate
lateral veins 5-8
inclined up and close to the central;A.macrorrhiza: leaf blade is broad-ovate
leaf base auriculate
leaf apices mucronate
lateral veins 9-12
tend to the left or right side extension respectively. Conclusion: The leaf morphological-venation pattern can be used to identify the characteristic of A.cucullata and A.macrorrhiza and provide basis for the establishment of its quality standard.
