Objective: To study the protection of compound recipe Hovenia dulcis powder and water extract groups on acute liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) in rats.Method: Sixty male and female rats were devided into six groups randomly
the control group
the high-dose
middle-dose
low-dose of crude powder groups
the aqueous extract of H.dulcis group and model groups. The rats were injected carbon tetrachloride to copy the acute liver injury model
to observe activity of serum aspartate aminotransferase(AST)
alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) after oral administrating compound recipe H.dulcis for 30 days.Result: Compared with model group and blank control group
ALT
AST and LDH levels were significantly increased.Compared with model groups in crude powder high-dose group
LDH were significantly improved. In the crude powder middle-dose group
ALT and LDH levels were significantly improved. In the crude powder low-dose group
ALT
AST and LDH levels were significantly improved. In the aqueous extract of H.dulcis group
ALT and LDH levels were significantly improved. The pathological change of liver was observed
compared with model and test groups
liver injury was alleviated by sum analysis of ranks
especially in the aqueous extract of H.dulcis group. Conclusion: Compound recipe H.dulcis shows protective effect against experimental liver injury in rats
especially the the aqueous extract of H.dulcis group has more significant action.
