Objective: To observe the curative effects of Xiaopi Hewei decoction on chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) disease
and to investigate its influence on serum interleukin-8 (IL-8)
IL-11 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Method: Ninety patients with CAG disease were randomly divided into the control group (45 cases) and the observation group (45 cases). Patients in both two groups took 30 mg lansoprazole tablets once daily and 10 mg domperidone tablets thrice daily for continuous 6 weeks. If Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is positive
standard quadruple eradication regimen was adopted. The patients in the control group added 9 g Xiangsha Liujun pills twice daily. Patients in the observation group added 1 dose Xiaopi Hewei decoction once daily. All patients in both two groups received 4 months of treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine syndromes
signs under gastroscope and pathological integral were evaluated. Levels of serum IL-8
IL-11 and TNF-α were detected before and after therapy. Result: The curative effects and the clinical effects of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome in the observation group were superior to those in the control group (P<0.05). Scores of traditional Chinese medicine syndromes
signs under gastroscope and pathological integral in the observation group were less than those in the control group (P<0.01). After treatment

IL-11 and TNF-α in the observation group were inferior to those in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: Based on proton pump inhibitors and stomach medicine treatment
adding Xiaopi Hewei decoction could reduce clinical syndrome
improve gastric mucosa lesions
relieve the inflammation of patients with CAG disease. It is helpful to prevent precancerous lesions of gastric cancer.
