Objective: To determine ferulic acid in Angelicae Sinensis Radix by HPLC
while establishing their fingerprints to explore differences in ferulic acid content and fingerprint between the original drugs and the medicinal powder after the blending
in order to find ways to standardize the quality of drugs. Method: The blending target for ferulic acid is 130%according to pharmacopoeia standards. The reference fingerprint is based on nine different batches of Angelicae Sinensis Radix. Fingerprints and ferulic acid data were collected after the blending. Result: After blending
content result was close to the target
with a deviation of less than ±10%
and the fingerprint similarity after the blending was above 0.980. Conclusion: After different batches of pieces were processed by stepwise blending method
the index component content was close to the target
and fingerprint similarity became consistent
indicating that the quality consistency of Chinese materia medica increased significantly. The method was accurate and simple
with no need to use complexity mathematical software
and so can be used as a new method for blending Chinese materia medica pieces.
