Objective: To investigate the protective effect of acetylpuerarin on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats and its mechanism. Method: Wistar rat was used as a model of focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion.The positive reacted cells of apoptosis were counted and immunohistochemical method was used to measure the number of PI3-K/ Akt positive cells in rat’s cerebral cortex of sham-operated group

250 mg ·kg-1). Result: Acetylpuerarin could significantly increase the expression of the PI3-K and Akt
and reduce the number of cells of apoptosis(P<0.01).The higher expression and the fewer cells of apoptosis in the medium dose acetylpuerarin group (P<0.05)and the high dose acetylpuerarin group was better than the citicoline group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Acetylpuerarin has obviously protective function for ischemia-reperfusion in rat.
