Objective: To assess the efficacy of the integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine for Treatment of hyperthyroidism using systematic review. Method: Randomized controlled trialsonthe integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine as well as western medicine alone for treatment of hyperthyroidism were searched in electronic databases;all relevant literatures were screened according to inclusion criteria and data was extracted
then analyzed with Stata10.1 software. Result: The 21 randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria
including 1 394 patients. Compared with western medicine alone
the integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine significantly improved clinical effect [OR=3.26

and the integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine had significantly better effects than western medicine alone in improving free triiodothyronine(FT3)
free thyroxine (FT4)
thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
thyroid microsomal antibody(TMA)
and thyroglobulin antibody(TGA)
but there was no difference in thyromegaly improvement between two groups. Conclusion: The integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine has significantly better effects than western medicine alone in treatment of hyperthyroidism
